This is not to say that the area doesn't have any amenities as tourists or find lots to see and do and in fact the area has quite a buzz about it as many young people are drawn here for the surfing.

Croyde is of course famous for it’s thatched, colour washed cottages which are extremely picturesque and an absolute joy in the long summer months – if you are a keen photographer then you should take some lovely holiday snaps of these cottage. It is sheltered by the dunes which contain several varieties of wildflowers. The village has a nice selection of local shops which makes self-catering in your Croyde cottage a piece of cake. Watermouth Castle is just 8 miles away in Ilfracombe and makes a great day out for all the family as there is a theme park in the castle grounds. Children will probably enjoy the inside of the castle as it has lots of suits of armour and spooky castle dungeons. The gardens around the castle are subtropical and contain a swing boat and steam carousel. There is even a miniature village to walk around, or you can have a go at panning for gold.

Eating Out in Croyde

It is well served with restaurants, pubs and bistros for those nights when you just don't feel like cooking in your holiday cottage in Croyde. The variety of restaurants range from informal fish and chips, to a Thai takeaway, or more formal dining options, and there are of course many places to enjoy a traditional Devon cream tea.

Arlington Court is also nearby and is an English country house dating back to the 19th century. It is owned by the National trust and has a large collection of unique antique furniture as well as family memorabilia and is to the public. Perhaps the biggest attraction here is the collection of over 50 horse-drawn carriages in the National Trust Carriage Museum.

The area is extremely beautiful and makes for a great bucket and spade style holiday – so the kids will have a great time, but there are also numerous other attractions which will keep anyone of any age pleasantly occupied.
